Who We Serve
Horizons programs serve students from local partner schools who qualify for free or reduced lunch, and who are identified by their teachers as students who would benefit from long-term participation in an extended learning program. The families we serve typically earn below 35% of the median income in Metro Denver.
When students first arrive at Horizons, roughly two-thirds are performing below grade level. Horizons Graland empowers students from families seeking greater access to resources by providing enriching educational opportunities. A hallmark of Horizons is the collaborative multi-year commitment between the families and our program.
Horizons Graland students are selected in collaboration with our partners at the Title 1C Family Education Program based on criteria established by Horizons National. All the students attend public elementary schools in the Metro Denver area. We are building a partnership with Altura Elementary in Aurora as well as continuing to work with the Title 1C Family Education Program to identify Horizon Graland students.
In our first summer in 2024, we worked with 25 elementary students. For summer 2025, we plan to welcome 40-45 students, continuing to add 15-20 students each year until we reach 90 Kindergarten through Grade 5 students by summer 2028. Once our elementary program is fully established, we hope to expand Horizons Graland to include classes for Grades 6-8.
We are part of the award-winning Horizons National family, which is made up of over 70 affiliate sites and serves over 7,500 students annually.
